On Wednesday, July 8, Assistant Research Scientist Dr. Kristy Anderson served on a panel to introduce an important new resource for our field: the Outdoor Recreation Professional Competency Framework (ORPCF). The framework was developed through a multi-year, collaborative partnership between the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals (SORP) and the U.S. Forest Service, alongside the support of an Advisory Group and the Eppley Center. The Eppley Center was thrilled to lead the research component of the project.
During the July 8 webinar, the panel explored the development of these core competencies, highlighting how the framework establishes a shared language and structure to recognize outdoor recreation as a distinct profession. This framework will serve as a vital roadmap; by establishing clear, nationwide standards, the ORPCF gives organizations, managers, and professionals a concrete framework to map out professional development and career pathways.
