Registration is now open for the 2027 Great Lakes Park Training Institute(GLPTI)! Join park and recreation professionals from across the region February 22–25, 2027, at the Potawatomi Inn in Angola, Indiana, for four days of learning, networking, and professional growth. The 2027 Institute will feature educational sessions and hands-on workshops covering personnel and career development, park and facilities maintenance, natural resource management, natural and cultural interpretation, and women in parks leadership. In-person and virtual participation options make it easier than ever to take part.
GLPTI has been bringing park professionals together for 80+ years. The Institute traces its roots to 1946, when Indiana University’s Dr. Garrett Eppley gathered representatives from six Great Lakes states to explore a new approach to professional training. The successful pilot led to the first Great Lakes Park Training Institute in 1947, beginning a tradition that has continued and evolved alongside the parks and recreation profession.
