Nord's research and teaching background spans many areas, including community living, social inclusion, poverty and disability, school-to-adult transition, and employment of people with disabilities. A common focus of his work is on equity within and outside of formal systems of support. Nord’s work is widely disseminated across various outlets, such as peer reviewed journals, policy briefs, book chapters, evaluation and technical reports, legislative reports, and presentations
Nord holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Anthropology from St. Olaf College, a Master’s in Social Work from Augsburg College, and a Doctorate in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
