Eppley Center Launches New Project With the Society for Outdoor Recreation Professionals

Saturday, March 01, 2025

In January, the Eppley Center team initiated a new project with the Society for Outdoor Recreation Professionals (SORP) to support their development and identification of core competencies for outdoor recreation professionals. Through an evaluative process, the Eppley Center will provide support, implementation, and reporting efforts to arrive at a set of competencies for widespread use and application across the outdoor recreation profession in the coming months.

The SORP project is one of several, recent comparable projects that the Eppley Center has led and supported over the past five years—other recent competency project partners include American Trails, the National Park Service, the World Parks Academy, and Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces. Please reach out to the Eppley team at eplyhelp@iu.edu if you have questions about how competency development work can inform professional development; role definition; and employee retention, feedback, and evaluation efforts for your organization.
