Marcie Beers is a project manager with the Early Childhood Center (ECC) at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community.
Beers currently manages the evaluation of the federal Preschool Development Grant to improve the Indiana Birth-5 systems. The projects addressed in the grant focus on the needs of rural providers and providers working with culturally diverse families, implementing effective adult practices, supporting local communities in fostering a high-quality early childhood system, and providing a sustainable support system that tackles the needs of underserved families. She is dedicated to improving the quality of an early childhood system in which young children can prosper and families are engaged in their children’s educational experience. Her passion lies in informing parents of their rights and assisting them in understanding the Special Education process. Having a child with severe Dyslexia and ADHD, she understands firsthand the challenges and importance of parents being informed as they advocate for their child; knowledge is power.
Prior to working at ECC, she worked for Ohio's Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) for eight years. While at the PTI, she served as executive director, managing federal and state grants working to improve areas of parent engagement across the state. She also trained parents and professionals on IDEA.
