As a result of COVID-19, First Steps issued new policies, procedures, forms and guidance for the program. First Steps implemented a tele-intervention service delivery model in March 2020 to ensure continuity of services for children and their families during the public health emergency.
First Steps state leadership wanted to understand more about family experiences with tele-intervention. This led to a collaboration between First Steps and the Early Childhood Center at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community. We conducted a phone survey of 100 families (92% were mothers) who were receiving First Steps services prior to the pandemic and continued services through tele-intervention.
Interviews took place in May and June of 2020.
